คนขายมะกอก
นิทานเรื่องคนขายมะกอก  เป็นนิทานพื้นเมืองของชนเผ่าขมุ  ซึ่งเคยมีถิ่นฐานอยู่ในบริเวณภาคเหนือของประเทศไทยติดต่อกับลาวแต่ดั้งเดิม
Selling  an  Olive
	There  once  was  a  husband  and  wife.  They  were  so  poor  that  did  not  have  anything.  Wherever  they  went  they  did  not  get  anything.  If  they  begged  for  something  to  eat,  people  did  not  give  them  anything.  Whatever  they  did  it  came  to  nothing.
	One  day  the  husband  found  an  olive,  a  single  olive.  He  took  the  olive  in  his  hand  and  went,  on  and  on,  until  he  came  to  a  house.
	May  I  have  some  salt  he  asked
	What  are  you  going  to  do  with  it?
	I  will  just  eat  my  olive
Then  he  went  on  and  came  to  another  house.
	Excuse  me,  may  I  have  some  salt?
	What  are  you  going  to  do
	I  will  just  eat  my  olive
He  went  on  until  he  had  been  to  every  house,  and  he  got  some  salt  from  everybocy.
	When  he  weighed  his  salt,  he  had  got  one  kilo.
	ครั้งหนึ่งนานมาแล้ว  มีสามีภรรยาคู่หนึ่ง  ยากจนค้นแค้นแทบจะไม่มีอะไรจะกิน  ไม่ว่าเขาจะไปทางไหนก็ไม่มีใครให้ความช่วยเหลือเรื่องอาหารการกินแก่เขา  ไม่ว่าจะทำอย่างไร ๆ ก็ไม่มีจะกินอยู่ร่ำไป
	วันหนึ่งสามีเก็บมะกอกมาได้ผลหนึ่ง  เขาก็เดินถึงผลมะกอกไปเรื่อย ๆ จนถึงบ้านหลังหนึ่ง
	ขอเกลือให้ผมหน่อยได้ไหม  เขาพูดกับเจ้าของบ้าน
	เอาไปทำอะไร
	ผมจะจิ้มมะกอกกิน
	แล้วเขาก็เดินไปจนถึงบ้านถัดไป
	ประทานโทษครับ  ขอเกลือผมบ้างได้ไหม
	จะใช้ทำอะไร
	กินกับมะกอกผลนี้ครับ
	เขาเดินไปเรื่อย ๆ แวะทุกบ้านที่ผ่านมา  จนกระทั่งเขามีเกลือทั้งหมดรวม 1 กิโลกรัม
	How  he  went  to  a  house,  were  they  had  hens.  One  of  the  hens  was  white.  He  took  the  salt  and  exchanged  it  for  the  hen.  Carrying  it  in  a  strap  he  went  on.
	Soon  he  came  to  a  house,  where  somebody  had  just  died.  Their  father  had  died  and  they  were  having  a  wake  for  him.  He  sat  down  with  them  and  said.  Hey,  you,  take  care!  Take  care  lest  your  father  eats  my  hen.  I  will  require  I  will  pick  a  quarrel  with  you  They  answered  :  Oh,  it  doesnt  matter,  he  is  dead.
	During  the  night  while  all  of  them  slept,  he  broke  the  neck  of  the  hen  and  pushed  it  into  the  mouth  of  the  dead  body.
	Whatever  they  wanted  to  give  him,  he  did  not  accept  it,  they  offered  to  give  him  a  water  buffalo  or  a  cow,  but  he  did  not  take  it.
	Indeed,  he  said, I  will  take  your  father.  Carrying  the  body  of  their  dead  father  with  a  strap  around  his  head  he  went  away.  He  went  on  and  on.
	ทีนี้เขาไปถึงบ้านอีกหลังหนึ่งที่เลี้ยงไก่  มีไก่ตัวสีขาวอยู่ตัวหนึ่ง  เขาจึงนำเกลือนั้นไปขอแลกกับไก่  และสะพายเดินต่อมา
	ไม่ช้าก็มาถึงบ้านหลังหนึ่ง  ที่นั่นมีคนในบ้านเพิ่งเสียชีวิต  ลูกเมียกำลังทำพิธีสวดส่ววิญญาณอยู่  เขาจึงขอเข้าไปร่วมงานด้วยและเอ่ยว่า  คุณ ๆ โปรดระวังหน่อยนะ  เดี๋ยวพ่อคุณกินไก่ของผมละก็  ผมจะจะมีเรื่องแน่  พวกนั้นจึงเอ่ยว่า  โอ๊ย  ไม่ต้องห่วงหรอก  พ่อแกตายแล้วนี่
	คืนนั้นขณะที่ทุกคนกำลังหลับ  เขาจึงจัดแจงหักคอไก่  จับยัดเข้าไปในปากของผู้ตาย
	เมื่อทุกคนรู้เรื่องก็พยายามจะชดเชยค่าเสียหายให้  แต่เขาไม่ยอมรับสิ่งใด ๆ เลย  ไม่ว่าจะเป็น  วัว  ควาย  แต่กลับบอกว่า
	เอายังงี้ละกัน  ผมจะเอาพ่อคุณนี่แหละ  แล้วเขาก็แบกศพแล้วเดินต่อไป
	He  then  heard  some  buffalo  and  cow  merchants  walking  in  the  distance.  Ring  ring  sounded  their  bells.  He  heard  the  bronze  bells  coming  closer,  ring  ring
	He  took  the  father  of  those  people  and  put  the  body  across  the  path.  Quickly  he  went  into  the  forest  to  break  some  fireword.  He  broke  firewood  and  when  they  arrived  he  shouted : Hey,  mind  that  you  dont  trample  on  my  father.  Father  has  got  a  fever,  and  I  am  still  collecting  firwood,    for  I  am  going  to  light  a  fire  for  him  to  warm  him.  That  is  what  he  said.  When  he  had  broken  the  firewood,  he  put  it  on  his  shoulder  and  came  out  of  the  forest.
	ตามทางเขาได้ยินเสียงพ่อค้าขายวัวควายเดินมาแต่ไกล  เสียงกระดิ่งวัวดังแว่วมากรุ๊งกริ๊งใกล้เข้ามาทุกที ๆ
	เขาจึงนำร่างที่เขาแบกมานั้นวางลงบนถนนและรีบหลบเข้าไปข้างทางทันที  ทำทีว่าตัดฟืน  พอพวกนั้นเดินมาใกล้  เขาก็ร้องส่งเสียงดังว่า  เฮ๊ย  ระวังหน่อยอย่าเดินทับพ่อฉันนะ  เขาไม่สบายเป็นไข้  นี่ฉันกำลังเก็บไม้มาทำฟืนสุมไฟให้เขาอุ่น  เขาบอกดังนั้น  เมื่อเขาได้ฟืนก็เดินออกมาข้างทาง
	When  the  merchants  arrived,  they  made  their  buffaloes  and  cows  stop.  The  man  came  out  and  lit  a  fire.  When  he  had  lit  the  fire,  he  walked  over  to  wake  up  the  dead  man  who  was  supposed  to  be  his  father.
	Hey,  father, father  get  up,  the  fire  is  burning  already!  The father  did  not  stir,  for  he  was  already  dead.  The  man  accused  the  merchants  :  You  let  your  buffaloes  and  your  cows  trample  on  my father!
	They  offered  to  give  him  anything,  offered  him  buffaloes  and  silver,  but  he  did  not  accept  anything.  In  the  end,  however  he  accepted  the  returned,  ring  ring  ring
	Somebody  asked  him.  Oh  were  have  you  got  them  from?  He  answered : Oh  I  just  went  to  sell  my  olive.
	And  here  the  story  ends.
	เมื่อพวกพ่อค้ามาถึงตรงนั้น  พวกเขาก็หยุดฝูงควายของเขา  นายคนนี้ก็เริ่มสุมไฟ  เมื่อไฟติดเรียบร้อยดีแล้ว  เขาจึงก้าวไปปลุกร่างที่เขาบอกว่าเป็นพ่อนั้นทันที
	พ่อ ๆ ตื่นเถอะ  ตื่นได้แล้ว  ผมจุดไฟให้แล้วนะ  ร่างของพ่อมิได้ขยับเขยื้อนเลยสักนิด  ก็แหมมันเป็นศพอยู่แล้วนี่คะ  นายคนนี้จัดการหันไปกล่าวหาพ่อค้าทันทีว่า  พวกคุณแท้ ๆ น่ะสิ  ปล่อยให้สัตว์พวกนี้มาเหยียบย่ำพ่อของฉันได้
	พ่อค้าลานลนเสนอว่าจะชดเชยค่าเสียหายให้  เสนอควายก็แล้ว  เงินก็แล้ว  แต่นายคนนี้ก็ไม่พอใจ  อย่างไรก็ตามในที่สุดเขาก็ยอมเอาวัวควายของพ่อค้าทั้งหมดฝูงใหญ่มา  แล้วเขาก็บ่ายหน้ากลับบ้าน  นำฝูงสัตว์กลับไปด้วย  โดยเดินนำหน้า  มีเสียงกรุ๊งกริ๊งตามมา
	ขณะนั้นมีคนเดินออกมาร้องถามว่า  ไปเอาฝูงสัตว์มาจากไหนน่ะ  เขาจึงตอบกลับไปว่า  ขายมะกอกได้มา
	เป็นอย่างไรคะกับนิทานเรื่องนี้  สนุกไหมคะแล้วคุณรู้ไหมคะว่านิทานเรื่องนี้สอนว่าอะไรอ๊ะ  อ๊ะ  อ๊ะ!!!!  ลองเก็บไปคิดเป็นการบ้านดูนะคะ  แล้วจะกลับมาให้คำตอบค่ะ
