รักรันทดกฎแห่งเธอเคยเพ้อฝัน
ลานิรันดร์เบ็ดบ่วงเธอเลิกเผลอไผล
ปราชญ์ซีนิคและเพลโตฉันโผไป
จรจากไกลตำนานเจ้าเลิกเมามัว

สู่รวงรังที่พรั่งพร้อมย่อมหมายมั่น
เคยฝ่าฟันผิดตลอดเพราะบอดมั่ว
ความแหลมคมข่มสะเทิ้นเธอเกินตัว
ทิ่มแทงทั่วตำตาเจ็บชาชิน

เพียงสอนใจใคร่ย้ำใช่จำจด
ถอดกำสรดไถ่เสรีมิสร่างสิ้น
ให้หัวใจพองซนพ้นมลทิน
โบกโบยบินสิ้นสวาทอำนาจนาย

ครั้งยังเยาว์เคยเยือนเหย้าเยาวลักษณ์
ปาเป้าปักล้วนลูกเปราะเดาะหักง่าย
เสียเวลาสูญเพราะเจ้าล้วนเปล่าดาย
เลิกปีนป่ายกิ่งผุกร่อนใคร่ห่อนปอง

A renouncing of love

Farewell, love, and all thy laws forever.
Thy baited hooks shall tangle me no more;
Senec and Plato call me from thy lore,
To perfect wealth my wit for to endeavor.
In blind error when I did preserver,
Thy sharp repulse, that pricketh ay so sore,
Hath taught me to set in trifles no store,
And scape forth, since liberty is lever.
Therefore, farewell: go trouble younger hearts,
And in me claim no more authority;
With idle youth go use thy property,
And thereon spend thy many brittle darts;
For hitherto though I have lost all my time,
Me lusted no longer rotten boughs to climb.
